january 4th,2018 - for my birthday, I decided to travel to shennedoah to stay in a getaway camper. full amenities and beautiful cedar wood characterized my stay. the cool thing though, is that it was much more than a modern glamping experience but the creators made it so there was a focus on disconnection of the modern world, mindfulness, and nature indulgence. aside from the aesthetic nature of the camper ( literally aesthetic nature ) the surrounding area was calm and relaxing and made for the perfect formula for creation.
after getting siatuated (and being completely mesmerized by the quality craftsmanship) my best friend brooke and I set out our intentions (40% or less phone use, yoga, meditation, reading/art) and begin the night of resolve and zen searching. one of the intentions that I set was to create art, however that looked but I needed to create. I opted for a wood medium because i’ve never did it before and have ALWAYS wanted to. I got my acrylic, my wood, a beer and had at it. the result — a 2 sided watercolor looking cross section that embodies the nature-esque vibe of the weekend and pastimes of flower picking.
one thing that i’ve learned in 2017 is that in order to perfect and improve your craft you need consistency, otherwise there’s wasted space and materials. even if you aren’t comfortable with your tools, you have to push yourself to try, be ok with making mistakes, and of course...learning. it’s been a year of growth and this experience has truly set out the tone for this upcoming year— the year of NEK, the artist.
by the end of the trip i was reminded a few things:
-art is everywhere but it’s up to the self to harness the energy to create it
-nature serves as an endless source of inspiration
-whisky and cheerwine are legendary together
-roshi and tank r great camping dogs
-it’s easy to overindulge in material items — i want to cut back in 2018 ( downsize if you will)
-you’re in control of your own happiness, mindfulness, and creation
im actually returning back to getaway with my partner, Judea, and i’m so so excited ( she’s gonna take 4000 pictures but it’s all good cause i got my pics in already). im happy with my experience and i’m stoked for ours together. here’s to a comforting and cozy birthday in the hills of shennedoah.

I've been doing art since I was a child with my older brother, Jordan Moore (AKA YED.SLIME). When I was younger my graffiti tag name was 'NEK' (first three letters of my name backwards). Since then, it's somewhat stuck.
